Hello, I’m Debbie and I set up Choice Tutors in 2005 after recognising the huge demand for private tuition. I’m lively, enthusiastic and passionate about teaching. I hope this comes across in my lessons, which I aim to make as enjoyable as possible.

I tutor English and Maths, specialising in 11+ and entrance exams. I charge £30 an hour. You can contact me on 07958 085277

Qualifications: My qualifications include a First Class honours degree in Industrial Economics from Nottingham University. During my professional career as a Business Consultant in the Insurance industry, I became a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

I obtained a PGCE from the University of Hertfordshire in 2004 and have Qualified Teacher Status. I'm now also an associate member of the Tutors Association.

Experience: I have been tutoring since 2005 and prior to this I taught in state schools. I prepare children for the Eleven Plus and Common Entrance exams and have a high success rate. In addition, I tutor for SATs to ensure children are confident and well prepared for these tests.

Tutoring approach: I have very high expectations of my pupils and will work them hard. However, I believe learning should be relaxed and fun. I never belittle a child or undermine their confidence. I try to ensure that the children feel supported and able to ask questions for clarification when needed. I use a variety of teaching methods to generate enthusiasm and interest in the subjects being taught.

Hello, I’m Terry and I joined my wife in September 2105 to teach maths. It’s clear there is a big demand for maths tuition. The current curriculum is big and getting bigger, and there are many students who just don’t understand maths. I’m methodical, organised, a good communicator, professional, passionate about learning and apply a variety of teaching approaches to help students master maths. I specialise in KS3 (secondary) and GCSE foundation and higher level maths. I charge £30 an hour. You can contact me on 07976 292333.

Qualifications: My qualifications include an honours degree in Engineering from Brunel University, where I studied maths into my final year. I’ve worked in the IT industry for more than 30 years, which has helped me to understand how maths is used in the real world.

Experience: I designed and ran both group and 1-to-1 tuition and training courses in Industry. During the last academic year I tutored a mix or KS3 and GCSE foundation and higher level students in maths. My students were a good mix of girls and boys. For my GCSE students I helped to prepare them for the exams in May and June.

Tutoring approach: If the student comes to me early enough in the academic year, I like to cover the entire curriculum. It’s surprising how much content students miss. Together, we work through every method using lots of worked examples. I make sure the student is fully engaged the whole time with questions and problems to solve. I set homework and mark it during the next lesson. Closer to exams I set past papers for homework and we work through exam-style questions in the lesson. I focus on preparing the student for the exam until they know the material and are confident of getting good grades.
