  • For new students, Terry teaches maths at KS3 or secondary level. KS3 is year 7, 8 and 9, age 12 to 14. This is an important time for maths students because all of the foundation topics are covered, such as operators, negative numbers, fractions, roots and powers, algebra, graphs, ratio, proportion, rates of change, geometry and measures, probability and statistics. A solid understand of every topic is essential.

Our reference books of choice are CGP as they are always up-to-date with any curriculum changes. For students who are with us for a year or more, we cover the entire curriculum with worked examples, problem-solving, test questions, past papers and regular homework. Students must be able to apply what they learn.

We also focus on learning the times tables and helping students master mental maths. Most end of year test papers involve a calculator and non-calculator paper. Learning the times tables speeds up every calculation for all students. It’s amazing how many students cannot perform the basic operations on paper. These include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division for both integers and decimal numbers. We ensure all students have a solid grasp of each operation.
